Base Mould

Previous Profile Next Profile

Description

Base mould is usually run along the perimeter of a room and provides a pleasing aesthetic transitioning a wood floor to the wall.  Often, it is used in conjunction with quarter round, but not always.  Base mould can either be primed and painted or stained to match the floorcovering.  Base mould protects the wall from bumps and kicks that can happen as people and objects move about a room.  Base mould should be secured to the wall high enough to allow the wood floorcovering to expand and contract beneath it.

Our high solids, high build finishes are machine applied and quick cured through various methods including chemical reaction and energy based methods.  The result is an even coat along the entire length of the product.  Our finishes have an added UV absorber to prolong the life of the finish and resist ambering, or "yellowing" of the product from age.  The resulting product will last for years to come.

Installation

  • Proper installation is detailed in the image at the top of this page

  • Do not secure the base mould to the floorcovering, secure the base mould to the wall

  • The floorcovering should be able to freely move underneath the base mould to allow for expansion and contraction movements during different heating and cooling cycles

  • When using finish nails to attach the base mould, be sure to set the depth of the fastener shallow enough to avoid penetrating concealed water pipes and wiring in the wall
