Description

The overlap reducer is used in much the same fashion as the flush-mount reducer as it is commonly used to provide a smooth transition between two floors of separate height.  The overlap reducer is almost exclusively used in  floating floor applications.  A common example can be found at the edge of wood or laminate floorcovering where it meets vinyl floorcovering, as in a residential kitchen.  The reducer provides a smooth, continuous surface along its entire length to reduce the trip hazard and provide a pleasing finished edge to wood floorcovering.  The primary difference between the overlap and flush-mount reducers is the lip to the rear of the profile.  This lip "overlaps" the floorcovering, securing the edge and providing stability to a floating wood or laminate floor. The overlap reducer must be matched to the proper dimensions of the installed floorcovering to achieve the desired aesthetics and functional stability.  The overlapping edge should rest squarely on the surface of the face of the floorcovering, not the tongue as with flush-mount reducers.  As with other overlapping profiles, there should be no physical bond between the transition strip and the floorcovering.  Securing this to the floorcovering could prevent natural expansion and contraction of the floorcovering and cause failure.  An improperly installed overlap reducer will break when stepped on or flex when pressure is applied, thus creating a trip hazard.

Finish

  • Machine finished in our facility
  • The finish has added UV inhibitors to reduce the effects of ambering.
  • Moulding Solutions uses only environmentally friendly, VOC compliant finishes. Our high solids, high build finishes are machine applied and quick cured through various methods including chemical reaction and energy based methods.  The result is an even coat along the entire length of the product.  Our finishes have an added UV absorber to prolong the life of the finish and resist ambering, or "yellowing" of the product from age.  The resulting product will last for years to come.

Installation

  • Proper installation is detailed in the image at the top of this page

  • Be sure the lip covers the surface of the flooring - this profile provides structural support to the flooring system and should cover the face of the board
