Description

The overlap stairnose is very similar to the flush-mount stairnose as it transitions different elevations of floorcovering where the floors are separated by a vertical transition.  The pleasing visual effect created by using this transition gives the illusion of the wood floorcovering overhanging the lower level.  A great example of this is at the top of a staircase.  This stairnose allows a clean transition and simulates an installed stairtread on the top landing.  The stairnose is also useful in landings and sunken rooms where there is wood floorcovering installed on the higher elevation.  The primary difference between an overlap stairnose and a flush-mount stairnose is the lip at the rear of the profile that "overlaps" the wood floorcovering.  This lip actually covers the face of the floorcovering and provides support for the terminating board of the floorcovering.  The overlap stairnose should always be installed so that the piece is resting squarely on top of the floorcovering, an improperly installed overlap stairnose can flex or break and possibly create a trip hazard.  As with other overlapping profiles, the overlap stairnose is almost exclusively used in floating floor applications.  The floorcovering should not be adhered to the overlap stairnose as to allow for the natural expansion and contraction of the floor.

  • Moulding Solutions uses only environmentally friendly, VOC compliant finishes. Our high solids, high build finishes are machine applied and quick cured through various methods including chemical reaction and energy based methods.  The result is an even coat along the entire length of the product.  Our finishes have an added UV absorber to prolong the life of the finish and resist ambering, or "yellowing" of the product from age.  The resulting product will last for years to come.

Installation

  • Proper installation is detailed in the image at the top of this page

  • Be sure the lip covers the surface of the flooring - this profile provides structural support to the flooring system and should cover the face of the board
