Quarter Round

Description

Quarter round is used to cover the expansion gap left between the wall and the wood floorcovering.  Quarter round provides a rounded transition when installed properly and is generally either painted to match the baseboard / base mould or stained to match the wood floorcovering.  It can also be installed flush with 3/4" flooring to create a rounded transition in place of a reducer.  Quarter round can also be found picture framing fireplaces to hide the edge of the raised hearth.  In the new home construction industry, this gap is commonly found when 3/8" floorcovering is installed flush to the heart.

Quarter round is slightly different than base shoe or shoe mould but sometimes the terms are used interchangeably.

  • The finish has added UV inhibitors to reduce the effects of ambering.

  • Moulding Solutions uses only environmentally friendly, VOC compliant finishes. Our high solids, high build finishes are machine applied and quick cured through various methods including chemical reaction and energy based methods.  The result is an even coat along the entire length of the product.  Our finishes have an added UV absorber to prolong the life of the finish and resist ambering, or "yellowing" of the product from age.  The resulting product will last for years to come.

Installation

  • Proper installation is detailed in the image at the top of this page

  • Do not secure the quarter round to the floorcovering, secure the quarter round to the wall or baseboard

  • The floorcovering should be able to freely move underneath the quarter round to allow for expansion and contraction movements during different heating and cooling cycles

  • When using finish nails to attach the quarter round, be sure to set the depth of the fastener shallow enough to avoid penetrating concealed water pipes and wiring in the wall
